Inside Nuggets’ team meeting that set stakes for Denver’s stretch run: “Who do we want to be?”

Inside Nuggets’ team meeting that set stakes for Denver’s stretch run: “Who do we want to be?” NEW YORK – DeAndre Jordan has been in the NBA long enough to know what to divulge and what to keep behind closed doors. In the aftermath of the Nuggets’ loss Tuesday at Toronto, extending what was then a season-long four-game losing streak, most, if not all, of Jordan, Jeff Green, Ish Smith and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope spoke up in the postgame locker room. Their decades-long experience gave them the gravitas to do so, especially in a locker room where its figurehead, Nikola Jokic, isn’t one for fiery speeches. All four spoke to The Post, with varying levels of candor, about what was said.“There’s always a time and place, and I just think that was the time,” Green said. “… The feeling was just there.”Jordan, who’s fallen out of the rotation as the postseason nears but remains a pillar of the locker room, did disclose one of the motivations to raise their collective voice.“We’re in a great position to do something special,” Jordan said. “It’s supposed to be hard.”If the team’s eld...

Saunders: Would Rockies trade Charlie Blackmon? And nine more questions worth asking

Published Sun, 10 Nov 2024 19:41:36 GMT

Saunders: Would Rockies trade Charlie Blackmon? And nine more questions worth asking As the Rockies near their season opener at San Diego on March 30, I present 10 questions begging for answers:1. If the Rockies are out of contention by the trade deadline, and if Charlie Blackmon is raking as a designated hitter, would they consider dealing him? Should they?I know he turns 37 on July 1. And yes, he’s a franchise icon. And yes, he can veto trades (his contract says he can block deals to 15 clubs annually). But “Chuck Nazty,” who’s in the final year of his contract, will always be a Rockie. But if he has a chance to play for a contender, it’s worth trading him.2. Will the Rockies trade C.J. Cron? Cron is a bargain, making a team-friendly $7.25 million in the final year of his contract. He hit 28 homers in 2021, and 29 in ’22 while reaching the 100 RBI mark for the first time in his career. So, yes, the Rockies are likely going to trade Cron at some point.3. Will Kris Bryant be an All-Star for the fifth time in his career? If he stay...

Opinion: Abortion law is stopping me from having more children

Published Sun, 10 Nov 2024 19:41:36 GMT

Opinion: Abortion law is stopping me from having more children Over the New Year’s holiday, my husband and I received the surprise of our lives: a positive pregnancy test. The pregnancy was unplanned, but very welcome. Getting pregnant with our first two children had been somewhat of a grand undertaking, so the idea that I could just get pregnant was novel to us. Two positive blood tests at my OB-GYN’s office confirmed the pregnancy was progressing as expected. For the entire month of January, my husband and I smiled more than ever before as we marveled at our surprise, miracle baby. But a few weeks later, the first ultrasound erased those smiles. The baby was measuring behind and had no heartbeat. Our miracle baby had died.Along with the diagnosis of miscarriage came a new health condition for me: recurrent pregnancy loss. This baby marked my third miscarriage, and my doctor in Tennessee was concerned I would never again be able to carry a successful pregnancy without further investigation into what was going wrong in utero. As such, my doctor ...

Brooks: Trump, DeSantis could both lose the nomination in 2024

Brooks: Trump, DeSantis could both lose the nomination in 2024 There are two different narratives running through the Republican Party right now. The first is the Trumpian populist narrative we’re all familiar with: American carnage … the elites have betrayed us … the left is destroying us … I am your retribution. On the other hand, Republican governors from places like Georgia, Virginia and New Hampshire often have a different story to tell. They are running growing, prospering states. (Seven of the 10 fastest growing states have Republican governors while 8 of the 10 fastest shrinking states have Democratic governors.)So their stories are not about the left behind; they can tell stories about the places people are leaving for. Their most appealing narrative is: Jobs and people are coming to us, we’ve got the better model, we’re providing businesslike leadership to keep it going. These different narratives yield different political messages. The bellicose populists put culture war issues front and center. The conservative governors certainly pla...
