Sean Payton said he intended to spend part of Monday watching Buffalo film even though the teams don’t play for two weeks. His eyes, he says, are down the road, even with the trade deadline arriving Tuesday afternoon.Of course, he also acknowledged that he’ll likely meet with general manager George Paton later in the day. And the phone will probably ring. Perhaps frequently.“We’re not openly or even remotely shopping anybody,” Payton reiterated Monday. That is not the same thing as saying the Broncos are sure to stay idle.“Have people called? Sure the have,” Payton said. “Typically the buyer wants the media to know they called, not the seller. … It’s just a matter of what those other teams deem is important, and it’s hard to predict that.”The trick, of course, is balancing two straight wins into the bye week with the reality of a 6% playoff probability, the presence of several high-priced veterans who may or may not be in the Broncos’ long-term plan and the fact that Denve...More Colorado early in-person voting centers open as mail-in ballot deadline nears

U.S. health regulators are warning consumers not to use more than two dozen varieties of over-the-counter eyedrops because of the risk of infections that could lead to blindness. The Food and Drug Administration advisory applies to lubricating drops sold by six companies, including CVS Health, Target, Rite Aid and Cardinal Health. Consumers should stop using the products immediately and avoid purchasing any that remain on pharmacy and store shelves, the FDA said in a statement Friday. The agency asked the companies to recall their products last week, because FDA inspectors found unsanitary conditions and bacteria at the facility producing the drops. The FDA did not disclose the location of the factory or when it was inspected. No injuries related to the products had been reported at the time of the announcement, but the FDA encouraged doctors and patients to submit cases through the agency’s online reporting system.Earlier this year, federal officials linked an outbreak of drug-resista...Deadly crash involving driver stops all traffic on NB 405 Freeway

SANTA CLARA — These 49ers were built to be a team that runs the ball, has a catch-and-run passing game, and plays elite defense. That’s the kind of squad Brock Purdy, the NFL’s cheapest starting quarterback, was meant to helm. But now the 49ers can’t run the ball, they can’t defend, either, and without Deebo Samuel, their passing game has lost its yards-after-the-catch prowess — the middle of the field isn’t open. This team looks normal the last few weeks, which has put the burden of winning on the quarterback’s shoulders. It’s not a burden he’s ready to carry. It’s not a burden he is supposed to carry.Purdy brought the 49ers close in all three games, but three consecutive losses aren’t debatable.Yes, Purdy was, as head coach Kyle Shanahan said, “one of the reasons we were in the game” on Sunday. Purdy’s good was downright great. He makes the kind of big throws that no 49ers quarterback under Shanahan has attempted, much less completed: deep outs to the sideline,...Latest news
