Outdoor patio at Austin airport closed; space set to become a private lounge AUSTIN (KXAN) — An outdoor public patio at Austin's airport is closing to make way for a private lounge. The almost-4,000-square-foot space was originally opened as part of a nine-gate expansion at the airport in 2019."We realized that it was getting very low utilization by the public, even though we call it a public patio," said Mookie Patel, chief business and finance officer at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.Wendy Price Todd, a board member of the Airport Advisory Commission called the move "surprising" in a commission meeting Wednesday."It was under-utilized because it was under-advertised, under-promoted, under-signaged," Price Todd said. "It was a sort of self-fulfilling thing." Passenger growth at Austin’s airport is hitting forecasts five years ahead of schedule The new lounge, called Sapphire Terrace, will be open to passengers with Chase Sapphire Reserve credit cards. A statement from Chase said the space will provide cardmembers "a place to relax and fuel up befo...

Albert Pujols, nearly half a year removed from his historic retirement tour, paid a visit to the Cardinals' spring training home Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday. Only a small handful of people, Cardinals teammates, staff and beyond, knew he would stop by his longtime spring home. He texted manager Oli Marmol and a few others for permission to come and make the most of his trip to Florida. "I wanted to stop by and say hi to the guys," said Pujols. "I was here visiting my grandma in Port St. Lucie for a couple of days. I'm on my way to Miami right now for some business." Biden lay out his budget plan, challenges GOP to follow suit By JOSH BOAK (Associated Press)PHILADELPHIA (AP) — As political gridlock puts the government at risk of defaulting, President Joe Biden on Thursday made an opening bid with a budget plan that would cut deficits by $2.9 trillion over the next decade — a proposal that Republicans already intend to reject. It’s part of a broader attempt by the president to call out House Republicans who are demanding severe cuts to spending in return for lifting the government’s legal borrowing limit. But the GOP has no counteroffer so far, other than a flat “no” to a Biden blueprint with tax increases on the wealthy that could form the policy backbone of Biden’s yet-to-be-declared campaign for reelection in 2024.Striding around a stage at a union training center in Philadelphia, Biden seemed to be in full campaign mode as he spoke about his plan for the government’s finances and how his values contrasted with Republican priorities.“I just laid out t...

Jared Bednar makes important distinction about Gabriel Landeskog’s knee injury, recovery Nobody quite knows when Gabriel Landeskog will be back from his knee injury, not even Avalanche coaches and executives. But coach Jared Bednar made an important distinction this week about the nature of the captain’s recovery: The arthroscopic knee surgery Landeskog underwent in October 2022 was unrelated to the knee issue that led to surgery in March 2022.The first one was more of a clean-up procedure, not caused by a specific injury that was going to imminently prevent Landeskog from playing. “It was bothering him, so he got it fixed,” Bednar said. “Good timing to get it fixed. He didn’t want it bothering him through playoffs.”It took about one month for Landeskog to return to the ice after that surgery. He was able to play in Colorado’s playoff run to the Stanley Cup. The hope remains that he can still get on the ice this season, but as Landeskog’s timeline continues to stretch out, there is increasing concern about long-term ramific...
