Gordon made terrible movies for 60 years. He’s an inspiration.

Christopher Borrelli | Chicago TribuneCHICAGO — Bert I. Gordon, who died earlier this spring at 100, was the absolute worst filmmaker who ever lived. Or so some might argue. You’ve heard Ed Wood was the worst. Or Roger Corman. Or maybe Michael Bay. But Gordon was not lousy for one or two decades. He was a terrible filmmaker for about 60 years, and when he got around to writing his memoir in 2010 (“The Amazing Colossal Worlds of Mr. B.I.G.: An Autobiographical Journey”), it was the absolute worst book ever written by a filmmaker. To borrow from the lurid posters for his movies, his talent, such as it was, screamed: Amazing! Towering! Beyond Description! Just not in a good way. You could say I’m unkind. But there’s poetry to this life: Bert I. Gordon was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, seven years after Orson Welles was born in Kenosha. That’s the universe pranking us.Or God laughing.“Empire Of The Ants,” by actor and filmmaker Bert I. Gordon. The gunman behind the second-deadliest US mass shooting of the year was terminated from the Army due to health concerns and may have been driven by right-wing extremism, sources told CNN.Authorities say Mauricio Garcia used an AR-15-style weapon to kill eight people Saturday at Allen Premium Oulets, a bustling mall in the affluent Dallas suburb of Allen.Garcia entered the Army in June 2008 but was terminated after three months and did not complete basic training, Army spokesperson Heather Hagan said Monday.A US defense official said Garcia was separated because of a mental health condition after receiving a mental health evaluation.Under Army regulations at the time, a commander could approve the separation of a service member for physical or mental health conditions that interfere with an assignment or performance of duty.Garcia was killed at the scene of the massacre by an Allen police officer who was on a nearby call. (KRON) -- Crowd control enforcement decisions made by Caltrans and police on Cinco de Mayo in San Jose are being blasted by state political leaders as "racist" and fear-driven. San Jose residents who went out to celebrate the Mexican holiday were blocked or turned around from the city's downtown area because of extensive highway closures. "Normal traffic controls are one thing – but shutting down major highway access on the pretense of fear of multicultural celebrations of Cinco de Mayo is racist targeting, and blatantly unconstitutional as it violates First Amendment rights to freedom of assembly," State Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose) and Assemblymember Ash Kalra (D-San Jose) wrote in a joint statement Monday. The San Jose Police Department said it takes a "zero-tolerance" approach every Cinco de Mayo because San Jose "has historically drawn large crowds from outside the city, many of whom did not celebrate lawfully." Police arrested 115 people over the weekend and responded to ...Latest news
