AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was booked into jail Wednesday in connection to a January road rage incident on the Interstate 35 frontage road, the Austin Police Department said in a release.On Jan. 30, a caller told APD a man pulled a gun out and pointed it at two people, including a child, in another vehicle in the 5700 block of the South I-35 frontage road, which is in central Austin near Koenig Lane, APD said.Detectives identified the man as 23-year-old Austin Martin, the release states.Firearms discovered at Austin home. AUSTIN (KXAN) — As shortages in the Austin Police Department continue the Austin Police Retirement System said it was expecting about 80 retirements by the end of April.These retirements would come as APD’s contract expires Friday, March 31.“I expected to be here another two and a half years at least, but decided to go now that the contract was going away,” said Mo Forshee, who recently retired from APD after 23 years. “I think everyone saw the writing on the wall and so you got a lot of early retirements.” Texas DPS to begin assisting APD with patrols Thursday to help during staffing shortage The City of Austin and the Austin Police Association (APA) came to an agreement on a four-year contract following about a year of negotiations, but Austin City Council later voted 9-2 to pursue a one-year extension agreement with APA instead. ST. LOUIS - One man has died and others are possibly hurt after a shooting Friday afternoon in north St. Louis.The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to 5000 block of Thrush Avenue in the Walnut Park East neighborhood just after the noon hour to investigate the shooting. Top Stories: Severe weather expected near St. Louis Friday Officers found one man unconscious inside a vehicle who had suffered a gunshot wound to his stomach. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but died from his injuries. A SLMPD spokesperson initially reported the shooting is one "possibly involving multiple victims," though has not disclosed how many others might be hurt. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A man convicted of killing five people in north St. Louis County in 2019 has been sentenced to life in prison. Terrance Wesley, 32, was handed a life sentence, plus 10 years, in a quintuple murder case from July 6, 2019. He pled guilty last year to criminal charges in the deaths of Derrick Perry, James Penny, Ronald Brewster, Rondall Mullin and Rodney Holt. The 10 Freeway is shut down in both directions in East Los Angeles after a pursuit ended in a police shooting Friday morning.The incident was reported around 10:50 a.m. on the eastbound side of the highway near the Eastern Avenue off-ramp and the southbound 710 Freeway transition, according to the California Highway Patrol.Monterey Park police were chasing a driver when the pursuit ended in an officer-involved shooting, though it is unknown if anyone was injured.The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the incident to assist in the investigation.A SigAlert was ordered in the area, closing both sides of the freeway.Aerial video from Sky5 showed multiple police vehicles on the empty highway in the area, but traffic backed up for miles.No further details about the incident have been released.
